Trigger Warnings + Content Disclosure

I grew up looking to IMDb to investigate movies before watching them – not everyone wants a surprise nude. :I

So, the following will be a general list of possible triggers involved in the current run of Survive – it will be updated as the chapters progress.

As can be expected, some may be in~spoilers~ territory, so proceed with that in mind!

First thing's first:

Nudity/Sexual Themes will never be a part of the Survive series.

There will be depictions of blood and injury, aka: wounds; scars; bandages. Some injuries are depicted very early on. Blood will be used realistically. Injuries will follow realistic timelines – infection, for example, or puss.

Injuries will never be gruesome for the purpose of being shock value: no organs or obscenities. If someone were to get impaled by a tree, for example, we aren’t going to see that.

..I should note, being impaled by a tree is an example and not something planned for this story.

There will be cadavers or corpses, but they will be out of focus or somewhat hidden. It’s the intention not the execution.

All of this goes for both human and non-human characters.

There’s use of guns; use of martial weapons such as spears and knives. Some scenes may be considered frightening for people who have a history of being uncomfortable with more “domestic” violence (aka, realistic violence where you die when you are stabbed: not anime physics).

There is violence and struggle between adult family members. There is no violence towards children with the intent to cause bodily harm: they’re in the crossfire, they’re not the targets.

People may die.

There is no depiction of human-on-animal violence on-screen, but there is reference to it in the story – one such example being the Tannerson family is quite literally a hunting and tanning family.

There is animal on animal violence (an example being a dog fight, or a hunting dog) but it is not a main focus. We won’t see any blatant, shock-inducing depictions of animals in pain.

There is animal on human violence, where animals are used to hunt, track or herd people.

Like humans, animals may also die in the background: method of death and corpse will not be shown. It’s more of a referenced situation.

Alcohol consumption is referenced by some characters. Some are obviously drunkards, but it is not explicitly stated when they are drinking and when they are not. Simply implied.

Smoking is a thing for several different characters. What they’re smoking is never discussed: it’s simply a background trait that will be in a few frames every now and then.

All of the above poor life decisions are depicted by adults and have no effect on the children.

Profanity will be fairly low. Damn and Bastard are the bulk of what we use which could be recognized as swears.

All other insults and slurs will be in world-built language and thus not have any profound effect on the reader. Sheil, for example, being an Ypsli expletive that means nothing for us to use.

There’s no homophobia, no explicit sexism, but xenophobia is a part of the story’s obstacles.

Suader are at war with Lieri: their language and aggression illustrates this several times throughout the story. Some characters have their main driving force being Suader’s patriotism-induced murder.

Stejn are a largely ignored but scapegoated group of people with mainly negative stereotypical reference by outside characters.

Ylps are disliked by everyone quite equally. Suader call the Ypsli in particular casket robbers and the Ypsli refer to them as nekromants: both being quite heavy insults.

Some older characters are simply stuck in their mindset of X v Y and their language towards others shows this.  Their preconceived assumptions will affect their actions.
